Track every city you've visited, on one map

Countries tell you where you've been. Cities tell the real story. YouVisited lets you pin every city you've explored on your travel map — with dates, notes and every repeat visit.

Why track cities as well as countries?

“I've been to Italy” can mean a long weekend in Milan or three summers between Sicily and the Dolomites. A cities visited map captures the difference. It shows how deeply you know a country, reminds you of places you'd forgotten, and makes planning your next trip easier — you can see at a glance which regions you haven't explored yet.

How to add cities to your map

  • Search for any city from the box at the top of your travel map — over 135,000 cities and towns worldwide, biggest first.
  • Or open a country and search within it, which is handy for towns that share a name with somewhere else.
  • Add dates and a short note if you like. Leave them empty if you don't remember.
  • The city appears as a pin on your map, and its country is counted as visited.

Repeat visits are recorded separately

Every visit to the same city gets its own entry, so you can see that you've been to Lisbon four times, when each trip was, and what you got up to. Your travel statistics rank your most-visited cities automatically.

Cities and trips work together

When you log a trip — say Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka in spring — those cities are listed as destinations. They don't appear on your map until you confirm which ones you actually visited. That's deliberate: plans change, and on shared trips not everyone goes everywhere. Each traveller ticks off their own cities.

You can also attach photos and stories to a city in your travel journal, and save favourite places — a restaurant, a viewpoint, a hotel — so you can find them again.

Cities on your wishlist

Dreaming of Cape Town or Queenstown? Add them to your travel bucket list. Wishlist cities show as amber pins and never count towards your visited cities, so your statistics stay honest.

Milestones for city collectors

YouVisited awards achievements as your city count grows: 10 Cities, 25 Cities and City Collector at 100. They're earned only from cities you've confirmed visiting, and they appear on your travel profile if you choose to share it.

Frequently asked questions

Which cities can I add?

Any of the more than 135,000 cities and towns in the GeoNames database with a population over 1,000 — from capitals to small coastal villages.

If I add a city, is its country marked as visited?

Yes. Visiting a city means you've been to that country, so it counts towards your countries. It never marks any other country or city as visited.

Can I record the same city more than once?

Yes. Each visit is saved separately with its own dates and notes, and your statistics show your most-visited cities.

Do I have to enter dates?

No. Dates and notes are optional. Add them now, later or never — the city still appears on your map.
